About this course
- Recommended: Recent First Responders certification and +1 yr experience
- 44 hour course
- MUST attend 100% of the course
- 3-year certification in Emergency Medical Responder
- Includes CPR Level BLS (Basic Life Support)
- Includes AED (Automated External Defibrillation) certification (where local legislation permits)
- Conducted by a certified Red Cross First Responder Instructor or Emergency Medical Responder Instructor

Course Content
- The Responder and Responsibilities (Medical Control)
- The Emergency Scene
- Preventing Disease Transmission
- Human Body Systems including Musculoskeletal Anatomy
- Primary and Secondary Assessment including Chest Auscultation and Pulse Oximetry
- Respiratory Emergencies
- Airway and Ventilation
- Circulatory Emergencies
- Bleeding
- Shock (Septic, Neurogenic, Cardiogenic, Hypovolemic, Anaphylactic)
- Soft tissue injuries
- Musculoskeletal injuries
- Head and spine injuries
- Chest, abdominal, and pelvic injuries
- Sudden illnesses
- Poisoning
- Heat- and cold-related emergencies
- Special populations
- Childbirth
- Crisis intervention
- Reaching and moving people
- Multiple casualty incidents
- Communications (Radio and Documentation) and Transportation
- Minimum 80% passing mark for written exam
- Two practicums (one medical and one trauma)
