October Monthly First Responder Meeting Minutes

Sorry for the late update guys, here goes:

  • The Standard First Aid course and First Responder course for October 8-9 and October 14-16 and 21-23 are full.
  • Sunday October 23rd is First Responder testing day. Please come out and help with examinations.
  • Jeff will be unavailable as of October 27th for approximately six weeks. Please direct questions to him before that day.
  • It has not been scheduled into the events as of today, but a First Responder course may occur in the month of January. Updates will follow.
  • If you have not already done so, please send your team lists to Jeff ASAP. These team lists should include: names, phone numbers, grades, t-shirt size and contact email. The AED storage cabinets should also be set up in your school and the keys should be in a secure but known location to all responders.
  • Burnett Secondary will be involved in a program to assist a Grade 6/7 teacher at Spul’u'kwuks Elementary to run a First Aid Course for 3 classes. More information will follow.
  • The Steveston Rotary Club has also requested to provide CPR-A training to feeder elementary schools to two high schools in Richmond. More information will follow.
  • There will be a new curriculum for first aid following November 1st. All responders will need to be updated with these changes and as well as trained in additional skills with the advent of PJ 2011. These additional skills include: use of tetracane, sterilization of equipment and new guidelines for choking.
  • The Central America Project has been slated for 2014. If you would like to participate in the planning committee, please contact Jeff.
  • Scouts Canada will now allow for a MedVent/Medical Rover Company in BC. If you would like to be a part of this company, please contact Jeff.
  • A Direct Access Grant application has been made. If you see any kind of training material or equipment for community events that you think may be beneficial for the group, please send suggestions to Jeff.
  • If your school has a disproportionate amount of interested candidates for Standard First Aid, you may request to have  private course. The number of applications for this course should be between 10-14 and the date can be set by the group who wishes to run the private course. Note that all applicants do not have to stem from one school, multiple schools can pool their applications, as long as they fall within the 10-14 applicant range. If you would like to hold a course, please set a date and make sure all fees and forms are collected and give prior notice to Jeff.
  • Events will be posted on this website. If you wish to have an event added to the agenda, please contact Jeff and Kevin/Jason so we can add it to the website.

If there is anything else missing from these notes or if you require any sort of additional information, please feel free to contact me.

Regards,
Jason (jlee@firstresponders.ca)
